About The Author

Steve Lazarus

Steve Lazarus is a first time author, retired FBI Special Agent, and United States Air Force veteran. The unique voice he brings to "Call Me Sonny" draws on over 35 years of service to his country at home and abroad.

During the first half of his FBI career, Steve went head to head with domestic terrorists, narcotics trafficking organizations, and violent street gangs in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area. His experiences in Atlanta, and one case in particular, served as the inspiration for his debut novel. In 1998, a violent, convicted felon threatened to attack the Atlanta subway system with a homemade biological weapon of mass destruction. Steve arrested the man and brought the case to trial, where he received a lengthy prison sentence. Just before being sent away, he threatened to kill Steve, his partner, and their families. "Call Me Sonny" explores the "What If?" scenario of Steve's nemesis making good on his threats from behind bars, by hiring a hit man.

During the second half of his FBI career, Steve specialized in the explosives field as a bomb technician. This challenging assignment led him to a number of tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait, where he investigated terrorist bombings as part of the Global War on Terror. In 2013, he led a cadre of bomb technicians and evidence recovery experts investigating the Boston Marathon bombing. He finished his FBI career with the Bureau's elite Render Safe Unit in Quantico, Virginia, where he and his team of hazardous device specialists were charged with executing one of the FBI's most sensitive and dangerous missions: The hands-on disassembly of improvised nuclear weapons.

After retiring from the FBI, Steve worked for several years in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where he trained aspiring members of the Emirati national security service. He now lives in the South Carolina low country with his wife Susan and their amazing wonder dog, Aspen.
